To schedule or not to schedule - First published 27th June 2022
Should you schedule your content?
Scheduling content can be beneficial to make your life easier, but it's not the right choice for everyone.
The truth is, if you're still new to social media and don't have a lot of followers yet, it can be more effective to post more frequently—and less scheduled—to grow your audience.
On the other hand, scheduling can help you save time and stay consistent with messaging if you're already an established influencer or business.
So, should you schedule your content?
The answer is: It depends!
The benefits of scheduling out your content
You can focus on your business. Scheduling content can help you focus on what really matters.
If your business page is constantly active, it shows your customers and potential customers that you're present and engaged. Posting regularly also helps boost brand awareness because people see your name, handle or logo every time you post.
It saves you time!
You can focus on your audience. When you know what content will be published and when it's easier to focus on your audience. For example, if you want to post an update about a new product launch, schedule the announcement around other related content so that people will see it in their feed.
It depends on what your goals are for social media marketing. If consistency is key, then scheduling out content can help ensure that you're posting regularly. However, if being timely and responsive to current events is more important than anything else, scheduling may not be the best option for you.
You can focus on your clients. No more wasting time on social media. You can focus your energy and attention to other areas of your business where you play to your strengths and hire help for the rest.
You can focus on your family. The holidays are a great time to spend with family and friends but can also be stressful. If you can schedule out social media content for the holidays, then you can take that off your plate and enjoy more quality time with those who mean the most to you.
You can focus on your friends; they'll be more likely to pay attention because they know you'll be around more often! And if that isn't enough, you'll have time to dream up new ideas, which means endless possibilities for how much better things could get!
The downsides of scheduling out your content
Scheduling out your content, though it has its benefits, comes with a few downsides. For example:
You can't be spontaneous with scheduled posts, but nothing is stopping you from adding additional posts that are spontaneous.
You can't be reactive (e.g., when someone on Twitter comments on
something you posted).
Sometimes you can forget to check in on the comments being made on the post.
Scheduling out your content can help you be more consistent with your posting, which is excellent for building an audience.
However, it also means that you must be mindful of when you post and plan accordingly.
How to decide if you should schedule your content
Do you have a goal in mind?
If so, what is it, and how will scheduling content help you achieve that goal?
Is this something that needs to be done every week or just some of the time (like when you're travelling or on vacation)?
Who is your audience?
What are their needs?
What is the best time to reach them (based on when they're online)?
How often do you need to post to maintain your audience's attention?
Scheduling out content can help ensure you are consistently posting, which helps build an audience.
It also allows you to be more mindful of when you post and plan accordingly based on things like goals, travel plans, or who your target audience is.
After answering these questions, you still aren't sure if scheduling out your content is right for you, so ask yourself one more question:
"Do I have time and energy to commit to doing this?" There are pros and cons to everything we do.
Scheduling out content can be beneficial, but only if it fits into your lifestyle and doesn't add more stress than necessary!
The answer all depends on your business and audience.
The answer to the question, "Should you schedule out your content?" depends on your business and audience.
For example, it might not be worth it if you have a small business and a small audience.
However scheduling is the way to go if you have a large audience or multiple platforms.
It can be hard to keep up with everything regarding social media—especially when all the
different platforms operate differently. Some tools available make scheduling posts more manageable,
but they can be expensive and take some getting used to before they become second nature (and, therefore, worth their price tag).
But what if there was an easier way? A way where you didn't have a big learning curve.
A way where this task can be managed by a professional who lives and breathes social media, so you don't have to?
