Don't get sucked into vanity metrics - first published 20th June 2022
Buying Instagram Followers, Good or Bad?
Instagram has a massive audience of one billion monthly active users. It's clear that the numbers are in your favour when
it comes to growing your brand.
The only problem is, that not everyone has enough time to grow their Instagram accounts organically.
This is where companies that sell followers come into play.
But is it really worth buying followers?
Let's take a moment and explore the good and bad of buying followers for your account.
Fake followers do not buy
When you buy fake followers, you're not buying a community. It's that simple.
A genuine fan base is the result of months (if not years) of hard work, engaging your existing followers with great content and building trust.
You can't buy a loyal fan base overnight just by throwing money at it—a fact that is true across all platforms and industries,
but especially so on social media where things move fast and people expect to see real engagement from brands they follow or engage with online.
When people see that you have thousands of followers who never comment on anything or even seem to exist beyond liking one post every now and then, they'll probably assume those followers aren't real—and why wouldn't they?
Anyone who has been active on Instagram
for more than five minutes knows that bots are everywhere! So when someone sees your brand name pop up in their feed
(or wherever else it appears), they're going to be wary about whether or not this brand actually offers something valuable enough for
them to stick around following its account everyday long term; otherwise, why would anyone choose this business as "their" go-to option?
Less engagement
The problem with buying followers is that the people behind these accounts are not interested in your content and
won't engage with it.
This can be a big turn-off for potential customers, who may think your business is trying to deceive them.
The more likes, shares and comments you have on your posts, the better they'll perform as marketing tools.
Since fake followers don't interact with posts or help attract real ones, they're useless from a marketing standpoint.
Loyal fans have less
The number of followers you have on Instagram doesn’t necessarily determine how much money you can make.
However, it does help your business grow and become more successful in many ways.
If a person has more than 100k followers, it means that he or she is popular and trusted by the community.
This means that other people will trust his product or service as well because they know how trustworthy this person is.
Vanity metrics
It's important to realize that vanity metrics are not a good way to measure success.
They do not help you to make good business decisions, they don't even give you an accurate representation of
how much money you've made or can make in the future, and they certainly don't show how well your Instagram
account is doing.
Vanity metrics are simply numbers that show how popular your post or page is without actually telling you anything
useful about its relevance or quality.
Similarly, it doesn’t matter if a lot of people view your posts—if most of those views aren't bringing any value back
into your business then what good is it? A lot of views isn't enough by itself; if all those views come from bots who
don't engage with any content anywhere else and never buy anything from you or share anything with their
friends then they're useless!
Genuine community

You may feel like having a lot of followers will make you look good, but it's really the content that matters. If your Instagram
the audience doesn't care about what you're posting or if they don't engage with your posts, then all that effort could be wasted.
On the other hand, if they do engage with your content and actively participate in commenting or liking it, then it's possible
that they are genuinely interested in what you have to say and how you're presenting yourself as a brand or business on
social media. Building this type of community requires time and patience but can be rewarding when done properly!
Builds trust and reputation
If you've been using Instagram for a long time, it's likely that you've noticed the same thing we have: Followers are a
fickle bunch. One day they're there, and the next they're gone. The only thing constant on Instagram is change
—and when it comes to followers, that can mean a lot of lost potential for your account and business.
This is why it's important to take action right away. It might seem like too much work at first, but if you want followers
that are loyal and committed to your account, it's worth it.
The best way to earn the trust of your followers is to show them you have their best interests at heart. If they know
that you're not just after their money, but also want to provide real value and build a relationship with them,
they'll be far more willing to support you. You can do this by showing them how much you appreciate them through posts and comments,
or by giving away free stuff once in a while. This kind of activity will pay off in spades.
Self-defeating

At the end of the day, your account will be judged based on how many followers you have. If you buy followers,
you’re basically telling everyone that your content isn’t worth following and any engagement you get is fake.
This may seem like a small thing now but it will add up over time and make people less likely to check out your
other posts because they know it might just be more spammy ads or affiliate links in disguise (which leads us to our next point).
Buying followers also makes it harder for people to trust what you have to say! It may be cheaper at first
but if all of those fake accounts suddenly disappear after a while then no one will ever trust anything else coming
from them again either – meaning fewer opportunities for real engagement with customers/followers who are actually
interested in what they have on offer."
There is no need to buy fake Instagram followers.
You can't buy loyalty, you can't buy trust or reputation. You can't even buy a genuine connection.
So why waste your money on something that isn't going to do anything for you in the long run?
My thoughts.
The best way to increase your Instagram following is to post engaging content, be consistent in posting and use hashtags.
This will get you real followers who care about the content you are putting out into the world.
